Download: Investing Index Folders

Hi and thanks for checking out ‘Investing Index Folders’.

This is simply a collection of folders that I have been using over the years to help me organise my digital stock investing and trading information and resources. Using these folders means that I never have to waste time wondering where to store some useful information that I may have found online, or even worse not bothering to download something because it’s too much hassle to store it on my computer so that I can find it again later.

When the time comes to review information on a topic I can simply view the contents of the relevant folder and go from there.

I made the collection part of the process even easier by creating an ‘Investing Inbox’ folder and made a shortcut to it on my computer desktop for even easier access. Whenever I find a piece of investing information online that may be useful I simply download it to my desktop inbox shortcut for later sorting into the relevant folder.

Getting Started

To get started simply download the ‘Investing Index Folders.zip’ file and unzip it to a convenient place on your computer that isn’t too deep in your filing structure. I would suggest that it goes in your ‘Documents’ folder for easy access. This creates a hierarchical folder structure on your computer into which you can store your stock investing information and resources. It isn’t a computer program and doesn’t contain any code that can run on your computer.

I would then create a shortcut link to the ‘Investing Inbox’ and move it to your desktop for even easier access when downloading resources.

I hope that the Investing Index Folders are useful to you and I wish you every success in your investing journey.

Investing Inbox

The ‘Investing Inbox’ is simply a folder where you can put all your investing-related downloads without worrying about filing them away in the right place at that time. When you have a bit of spare time you can go to your Investing Inbox and move the resources to the relevant folders.

Inside the Investing Inbox you’ll see a text file called ‘Inbox URLs’ and here you can copy the website addresses of any useful sites that you find. Just add a note to remind you of the relevance of the site and maybe add a topic name so that filing it away into the correct resources folder in the future is easy.

It’s a good idea to keep on top of your Investing Inbox and regularly clear it out by filing things away in their correct place. This way you’ll always have an up to date Investing Resources folder and a clear inbox.

My Investing Documents

The ‘My investing Documents’ folder is where you’ll keep any documents that you’ve created or researched yourself, e.g. investing strategies, or documents that relate to your own personal investing or trading activities, e.g. correspondence to your broker or accountant.

Use these folders to store your investing backups, correspondence, investing logs etc. and use the ‘Investing Resources’ folder to store information about these topics if necessary.

Each 'My Topic' folder on your computer also contains a text file for quick storage of any notes you may wish to keep on a subject.

My Backups - backups of your investing software files and settings.

My Charts - stock charts you wish to save in relation to research on a particular company or a strategy you have created.

My Correspondence - letters you have sent and received in relation to your investing, e.g. to brokers or accountant.

My Investing Logs - your personal investing logs, journals and spreadsheets.

My Investing Statements - your personal investing statements from brokers and investment companies.

My Legal Stuff - items relating to the legalities of your personal investing, e.g. broker agreements, terms and conditions, etc.

My News - news items that you wish to save in relation to research on a particular company or industry.

My Portfolios - your actual stock portfolios or backups of your online portfolios.

My Price Data - any information you've saved on stock prices of companies you are researching.

My Programming Files - items relating to programming your investing strategies, snippets of code, etc.

My Research - information you have collected whilst researching companies that doesn't fit into any other topic category.

My Strategies - files relating to investing strategies you've created. This could include snippets of third party strategies that you've collected to create your own.

Investing Resources

The A to Z topic folders within the ‘Investing Resources’ folder is where you'll store the bulk of your investing information and resources.

These are simply an alphabetical list of all the major topics in stock investing and trading.

Here you would store information and resources about a particular topic, not files you have created yourself.

For example, you would store articles and links relating to creating and managing portfolios in the ‘Portfolios’ folder inside ‘Investing Resources’ but store details about your actual portfolio in the ‘My Portfolios’ folder inside 'My Investing Documents'.

Within each topic folder are two text files, one for recording your personal notes about a particular topic or its contents and one for recording website URLs relating to a topic, that you would like to keep for future reference.

Inside the URLs folder I have included links to resources that I have found useful over my years of investing and I’ve replicated most of these in the ‘Books’ folder by topic for quick reference.

Please take a look at the resources I’ve suggested whenever you want to find out more about a particular investing topic.

Investing Index Folders is mainly a tool to help you organise your downloads and data, it isn't meant to cover every topic in the whole of the investing world.
